Welcome Message

Welcome to the website for the Northern California
Chapter of URISA (NorCal URISA). The counties contained
within the chapter's territory are listed above. If you live and/or work
in any of these counties, or in the vicinity, you are welcome to join the
NorCal URISA Chapter. (PLEASE NOTE: If you live and/or work in the
Bay Area, you may wish to check out the Bay Area Automated Mapping Association
(BAAMA) website. BAAMA is
the URISA chapter representing the Bay Area Region.)
It is the goal of the Northern California Chapter of URISA to
provide educational opportunities to the local GIS community and to
further the goals and objectives of the Urban and Regional
Information Systems Association. We welcome any input regarding desirable chapter
activities, please visit our contact page
to send us your comments or suggestions. We will use this input to plan upcoming chapter
events and/or make improvements to the Chapter.

Mission Statement
The Northern California Chapter of URISA is dedicated to serving its constituent region through
professional development activities, objective educational outreach, open networking opportunities,
and advocacy for effective uses of geospatial technologies and information.
Vision Statement
To become the essential professional organization for urban and regional information systems practitioners
in the Northern California region, promoting both the individuals and organizations engaged in the use
and integration of geospatial information technologies for the management and improvement of both the
environment and our communities.

Quarterly Chapter Meeting: May 21, 2008:
Open Source GIS
When:
May 21, 2008 1 pm – 4 pm
Where: City of West Sacramento Civic Center
1110 West Capitol Ave
West Sacramento, California
With the evolution of GIS, we find ourselves with many different
software options for analysis, web mapping, and databases. There are
many new Open source product offerings that can be utilized as cost
effective options for deploying GIS, especially for small-medium
sized municipalities, as well as large organization.
Come join us for an afternoon of information and demonstrations of what's new in the open source
GIS community.
We will have presentations on:
- Basics of Open Source
- Developing Mapping Applications in Open Source
- Implementing GForge at CaSIL
You do not have to be a chapter member to attend this meeting,
but we encourage you to join this organization and lend your support to future topics and
meetings.

2008 Elections for New Board Members Coming Up!!
Just a reminder that from 07-20May2008, the Northern California
Chapter of URISA is conducting our annual elections to fill the
upcoming Board vacancies. Look in your inbox for a ballot and
fill it out. Results will be announced at the
upcoming Chapter meeting on May 21, 2008.
