Notes from Chapter Meeting

Board Members Present: Lorri Peltz-Lewis, Harold  Feinberg, Robert Thomas, David Hansen, Charmaine Yeung, Linda Wright, Diana Carolan, Geney Terry

 

      I.      Welcome attendees to Sixth Chapter meeting; meeting called to order by Geney Terry

 

  II.      Sponsor acknowledgement- Thanks for your support!

1.    Refreshments provided by: ESRI, California Office.

2.    Meeting Host: City of West Sacramento. 

 

      I.      Chapter Updates & Announcements:  Geney Terry provided a summary of Chapter status since last meeting.

1.    New Board of Directors has been Elected & Seated.

2.    A new Membership category has been created.  Corporate Membership allows for 5 individuals to be members for only $150.00/ year ($50 savings).

3.    General Announcements:

A.    GISCI has over 1,016 GISPs.

B.    Upcoming Hazus Training

C.    Committee Recruitments for Communications, Workshops, & Events.

D.   CalGIS in April 5-7, in Santa Barbara (http://www.calgis.org).

4.    Attendees were encouraged to join as Chapter members. Annual dues are $40.00 ($20.00 for students). Members will not be charged for URISA sponsored workshops held by the Chapter

5.    The next Chapter meeting will be in May and the topic will be on Addressing: Is it even possible?

6.    Calendar for rest of the year: May 10, 2006, August- TBD, Nov 8, 2006 are the next chapter meetings.  Board meetings are first Wed of the Month; either in person or via conference call.  All members are welcome to attend. Dates, locations, and times for those meetings will be available on the Chapter web site. (http://www.norcalurisa.org).

7.    The next annual conference for URISA will be in Vancouver, British Columbia, September 26-29, 2006.

 

  II.      Presentations - The remainder of the afternoon program was devoted to local examples on Disaster Management & Response, A G/IS Perspective.

 

1.    Kris Higgs, Office of Emergency Service (OES): Discussion on FIRESCOPE, OES response, Incident examples, etc.

 

2.    Victoria Smith, Bureau of Land Management: Incident Command System Organization, GISS Position description, training requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, etc.

 

3.    Cynde Porter, Sacramento County & Joe Concannon, SACOG: Countywide collaborative information maintenance program that supports local, State and Federal emergency planning and response services.
